Salaam-E-Ishq is a 2007 Indian Bollywood film directed by Aditya Chopra, produced by. The film features Kareena Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. The story of the film is about a Muslim who. Indian sadhu, Baba and his two daughters travel to US to find their mother who has a heart transplant surgery and who is in coma. The movie also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Juhi Chawla, and Kunal Kapoor in supporting roles. The film's soundtrack was composed by Anu Malik, whereas the lyrics of the songs were written by Sameer. Salaam-E-Ishq was released on 11 November 2007 on the occasion of the Diwali festival in India.
Aditya Chopra, the director of the film, decided to introduce Kareena and Sanjay in a different role. He stated that they would be playing roles of different religions. Salaam-E-Ishq was the first film of an Indian actress who played a Muslim, Kareena Kapoor. According to Chopra, Kareena Kapoor took the role as she knew that her "image and music" would not get her widespread acceptability. Chopra added that "She didn't want a part where her image would get damaged or would be questioned."
In an interview with Rediff.com, Chopra stated that there were no political ideologies behind the film, but the "idea was to break the stereotyped roles of Indian men and women". He added that in the film, a Muslim father and a Hindu mother would be shown as a "human story" and not as a Muslim-Hindu story.
The director stated that he wanted to cast all his old friends in the film, including Anil Kapoor, who starred in the song "Main Kabhi Na Jaana Kahan", as well as Pradeep Kumar and Shilpa Shirodkar. Kareena and Sanjay Dutt were cast because the director had made "several attempts" to cast them in other films and had come to know of their skills through acquaintances. In this film, the pair performed songs which were not sung by the duo in any other film. The film opened to mixed reviews. Salaam-E-Ishq grossed.
